Yup, all day rain and mist.
I left Christchurch like a mouse in a maze. Back and forth, up and down, backtracking and trailblazing without having any idea of where I was going. As luck would have it, after turning off of a main road so I could stop and get my bearings, shazaam, there was the NZ Air Force Museum getting ready to open for the day. What the hell, I figured I’d take the tour and get a bite to eat in the cafe while looking at maps and figuring out what to do next. I ended up touring the Museum with a fellow and his wife who had been flying since the late 40’s. He was British Military and had flown almost every plane in the museum in almost every country in the world. What this Fellow knew was truly impressive…his wife too!
Anyway, I sat down in the cafe to get a sandwich and one of the elder tour guides sat down with me and helped me sort out the lay of the land and helped me to get some direction for my travels.
I’ve decided to head to Queenstown. It is said that this is the epicenter for most activities on the south island.
I didn’t realize how much of the day I burned up at the museum, so when I finally arrived at the whitewater rafting lodge, they were done for the day and everyone was gathered around a TV watching the pictures of their earlier trip. I signed up for and will be taking the trip tomorrow. They say it includes rapids up to level 5. Is that significant???
